A Professional Blog: Heart-to-Heart

Let spring come in

Wow, it’s already March, without knowing. We just had another New Year (Chinese): The year of the Tiger. This gives us another chance to renew our goals if we have not done it already. We can say, “Let me start” all over again. While, yes you can do that, but only for your ego. It will never change the fact that spring is here, another season, we have to get going.

While every season is beautiful in its own sense, to us, it should be a time to grow, in spirit, in ourselves and in our profession. With all the things that we are doing and involved with, we have to be directed towards what matters to us most. And there is nothing that does not matter, there are no second priorities. Everything is important to us, according to our “super nurse” mentality, we can do it all.

In today’s lifestyle, we have learned to do things all in one time. We have accepted multi-tasking as an everyday routine, a fact in our midst. And yes, we are doing so nicely, because we have always been like that. We were not trained but we did survive through self-discovery. We are resilient. When we became nurses, we have been living so many lives that it does not bother us anymore. Is this some kind of apathy? It is, I think a defense mechanism to protect our self from stress.

Whatever we are doing, wherever we are, let us have time for spring in our lives, a breath of fresh air. Will you?

Sincerely,

Myrna D. Santos, RN
